The Dreaded “D” Word

So, yeah. Crystal and I are waiting for the final test results at the doctor’s office. Today was my two week checkup to see how the Bystolic is working.

The good new first.

  • Weight loss (2 weeks): 12lbs
  • Blood Pressure: 130/80
  • Pulse Rate: 84
  • Cholesterol: Still very high, but coming down

Now, the bad.

I got a call last week from the nurse to let me know that my glucose level was very high and there was reason for concern. I honestly shrugged it off as a one-time thing and was sure that the test results this time around would be better. I have had low blood sugar since I was a child. This shouldn’t be a problem, right? Let’s not start throwing around the “d” word yet. Two weeks of strict dieting will solve whatever temporary issues there were.

I was wrong. So wrong.

The doctor was really nice about it, but he let me know I was wrong. In layman’s terms: I’m really fat and I have been eating REALLY wrong for a year or two now. That plus what they called Metabolic Syndrome X has resulted in diabetes. Ugh. So, they have scheduled me for a diabetes education class next week and I have a month before they retest and decide what actions we have to take (pills or shots). In the meantime, I have to start pricking myself and gather results to give to the doctor when I go back in on January 13.

More later…nurse is back.

  • Damn.

Glad to hear some news is good. Hopefully, this is just some sort of transitional thing while you lose weight. My blood sugar used to do strange things before I lost some weight.
  • Are you on your netbook at the Dr.'s office? Keep us posted on the diabetes, scoops are overrated anyway. The good news is great though.
